Smithsonian Exhibit Coming…

“Team Smithsonian” attended a training session at the Georgia EMC Training Center in Smarr. The Smithsonian Traveling Crossroads Exhibit will arrive in Monticello in December 2019. Traveling Crossroads – Change in Rural America is an exhibition that examines the evolving landscape of rural America which will tour six communities in Georgia starting in the summer of 2019. The exhibit will be on display in the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor’s Center for six weeks beginning December 9, 2019 to January 11, 2020. Biotechnology Teacher of the Year…

JCHS biotechnology teacher Elizabeth Proctor was selected as the Biotechnology Teacher of the Year… Mrs. Elizabeth Proctor has been a high school teacher for 21 years, and had been teaching biotechnology for the past 5 years. She holds a BS in Biology and a Master’s in Education. She holds certifications in STEM and gifted instruction. She is also a certified teacher leader and serves as science department chair and JCHS STEAM coordinator. Currently, she is a Science for the Society and the Public lead advocate. 2018 Deal of The Year…

Today marked a big day for Facebook Newton Data Center project and Stanton Springs. The Joint Development Authority along with the Economic Development Offices of Jasper, Morgan, Newton & Walton Counties were awarded the Georgia Economic Developers Association 2018 Deal of the Year. This award was selected by site selection professionals who pay close attention to projects who demonstrate well executed community involvement and overall assistance for a project to locate within the community. Governor Nathan Deal congratulated and presented the award to the team members this morning in his office, followed by the Georgia Economic Developers Association(GEDA) monthly luncheon in Atlanta.
